Lately I've noticed clothing brands really pushing their trends for 2014. It's all very similar so I wanted to find out more about the key pieces this season. I've narrowed the trends down to four: dropped waist dresses, monochrome, stripes and gingham.
Dropped Waist
Rose Puff Drop Waist Tunic: Topshop, £24 (I bought this last weekend and it is gorgeous!)
You may have seen lots of these dresses/tunics in stores. And if you haven't, where have you been hiding?! The idea is that it's quite baggy and the skirt part of the dress is shorter, thus is looks like you have a massive torso. I'm joking, it doesn't really! It's actually a really flattering shape for most body types, and you can pair the dress with tights and boots.
Monochrome
Black and White Double Layer Tank Top: River Island, £22
Monochrome is simply black and white or varying tones of one colour. I think it's pretty much the same as the gingham or stripes trend - if the two are black and white does that make them monochrome too? It's all very confusing! I don't think monochrome ever goes out of fashion. I bought a dress from Zara that's monochrome (with a white bust and black skirt) and I'll definitely be getting more wear out of it now.

Stripes
Navy Stripe 2 in 1 T-Shirt Dress: New Look, £17.99
Stripes can go one of two ways: Parisian or Nautical. I much prefer the black and white Parisian stripes instead of the sailor look but it all depends on a person's individual style. Every year stripes make a comeback, they're like skinny jeans because they never truly go out of fashion.
Gingham
Brush Gingham Aline Skirt: Topshop, £36
Gingham reminds me of being in primary school. I didn't know how to describe it so I turned to Wikipedia: it's a 'medium-weight balanced plain-woven fabric made from dyed cotten or cotten-blend yarn'. It orginates from the word genggang - a Malay adjective meaning striped. It used to be known for the type of fabric whereas it's now recognised for the checkered pattern. I don't think it's very flattering but I am loving some of the pieces around at the moment. I know the above skirt from Topshop is really popular.
What trends are you loving at the moment? Let me know in the comments!
